Hi! My name is Lavanya Neti. I love animals, traveling, playing the veena, and learning new things!
I started my 510c(3) as a sophomore at American High School in Fremont, California, U.S.A. My idea to help improve education for underprivileged children started when I went to India in the summer of 2017 to visit family. Unlike in America, kids who attend public (government) schools in India are from economically disadvantaged families. The kids generally do not plan on continuing higher education and are not even required to attend schools. I realized that good education was a privilege that was not available in many developing countries. When I heard about the lack of funds government schools had, I was compelled to take action. I completed two projects: a library and art center for Zilla Parishad High School, as well as a playground for Alwal Elementary school. Meeting the students that received these new facilities was truly a life-changing experience for me. I wanted to provide other teenagers with the opportunity to conduct their own journey. Lastly, through my personal experience, I learned that education is hope.
