Child Development Centers

Millions of families live in tiny one room huts built on top of a small piece of land. The general atmosphere in such overcrowded neighborhoods, particularly in the evening and night is noisy. Students find it difficult to study peacefully.

Schools for Success Child Development Centers are attempting to find a solution to the difficulties faced by the students living in slums. Each center can hold 30 children. Places such as schools or community halls where no activity is carried out during late evenings are selected for this activity. Provision is made for adequate light, drinking water and toilets. Students from the area are invited and attendance is recorded every day.  Every evening students study and complete their homework in a peaceful manner. No regular classroom type teaching is conducted at the centers. The supervisors solve difficulties faced by the students and provide emotional support as needed. A supervisor or two ensure that peace is maintained in the group under their care. If a student remains absent consecutively for 2-3 days, the tutor visits their home to enquire. Progress of the students is monitored periodically by obtaining progress reports of their respective schools.
